Personality: Not much is known about Agent Clint Barton. The man takes his job seriously and cares for his comrades and higher-ups. He will do anything to achieve his mission’s objective.

When on the job, Barton is serious, calm and calculated. Being a sniper, these are his best qualities when working. He’s good as a lookout, judging things from a distance, before making a decision, but he is also very adept at making snap decisions in the heat of the moment. A prime example of this is when he shoved Director Nick Fury out of the way of Loki’s staff blast.

He’s one of S.H.I.E.L.Ds best agents, a skilled archer, assassin, and infiltrator. He’s well-disciplined and trained, most likely being one of the most deadliest people in S.H.I.E.L.Ds employ. He has a high confidence in his skills, and it would take something big to shake his resolve. The key example of this is when he’s freed from Loki’s mind-control.

This also shows that, despite being a very adept killer, he doesn’t like doing it at all. It seems to be a necessary part of the job, and he would probably avoid it unless it was necessary, or he was ordered to.

When in the infirmary with Agent Natasha Romanoff, after he was freed, he started to ask how many people he killed, before Natasha cut him off. It’s at this point that he shows that, despite being a very dangerous individual, he still has feelings. It’s clear to see that he blames himself for being taken over by Loki, and blames himself for everything that happened on board of the Helicarrier because of the knowledge Loki gained from him whilst under his control.

He dislikes being used against his will, especially when they use him for something he doesn’t agree with. This is mostly shown when he mentioned he’d sleep better if he could put an arrow through Loki’s eye socket. This makes it clear that, if anyone got on his bad side, he would hold a very strong grudge against that person.

He also seems very capable at controlling his emotions, showing that he can concentrate them onto a single goal. Concentrating his efforts on fighting Loki’s army in New York, Clint proved that, despite not having super powers, or any other advantage other than his natural skill, he could still be a valuable ally against whatever threat was thrown at them.

Despite being able to control his emotions, there is an impression that, if angered too much, he would make a very dangerous enemy. There is evidence to say that he would probably make them suffer if they caused enough of a violation against him. Again, this is shown when he said “If I could put an arrow through Loki’s eye socket, I’d sleep better, I suppose.” The ’I suppose’ shows that killing him would likely be the least Clint would like to do, and the most is something he wouldn’t mention.

He’s shown to have a bit of a softer side, also. When Natasha was extracting information from Loki, she mentioned that Clint had been sent to kill her but made a different call. She said she got on S.H.I.E.L.Ds radar in a bad way. It’s not expanded on exactly what happened, but the two became friends and colleagues. They have a steadfast relationship with one another, going so far as Natasha staying with him while he was recovering from Loki’s brainwashing.

Outside of his duties, Barton would likely be a lot less serious. He’s shown to have a humorous side, even when on the job, when he mentioned as an aside to Coulson when tracking Thor towards Mjolnir, “Better call it, Coulson. I’m starting to root for this guy.” From this, it’s easy to see that Clint could be a laid-back individual, but with a knack of switching from relaxed to serious quite easily.

In summary, Clint Barton is a very dangerous individual, and not a man to be messed with, however, if you stay on his, and his employers, good side, He can be a steadfast ally and friend.
